EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

We are a group of permaculturists and experienced teachers who are passionate about sharing our knowledge of plants and forest gardening. In our educational work, we enjoy visiting a number of schools across London each year, offering forest garden training. At our site in Finsbury Park, we offer workshops, with free places allocated for volunteers. Alongside this, we provide forest garden education for after school clubs, community groups, colleges, during family sessions, and in our outreach work offsite. We aim to host a diverse range of students, including many with special educational needs, individuals completing the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, and PHD students. Our community garden in Finsbury Park provides a host site for the accredited Award in Forest Gardening (Level 2), which is managed by the Orchard Project. This course was originally developed at ELL, and we are proud to say it was the first accredited training in forest gardening in the UK.

Outdoor Education with Schools

We regularly work with local school groups on site, for outdoor education linked to the national curriculcum. If you’d like to bring your school group to our site, please get in touch

Research – Soil Health

From 2016 until the present day, we have been engaging in research at ELL into improving the soil health. This involves taking samples from plants and soils for lab analysis, to monitor the levels of toxins and heavy metal pollutants. Our research focuses on mitigation through phytoremediation. This work is ongoing. If you are interested to get involved, or wish to know more, please do get in touch.
