WELCOME

EDIBLE LANDSCAPES LONDON is a not-for-profit community education project, with our roots in the Transition movement. We specialise in forest gardens – also known as ‘food forests’ – a food growing design system that observes natural ecosystems, involving a variety of perennial plants and trees. We recognise that this knowledge is originally rooted in indigenous practices, and cultivated over thousands of years. Volunteer sessions take place at our site twice a week, where we help Londoners learn to grow more of their own food, and propagate plants to give away to local projects. In collaboration we developed the first ever accredited forest gardening course in the UK, and continue to run a variety of community workshops on related subjects. We also host local schools for outdoor education, and partner with different organisations to create new forest gardens.

Empowering communities to act in response to the global issues of climate change and species loss, at a grassroots level, is a heartfelt aspect of our work. We are passionate to facilitate new ideas, providing a safe space to enable people to come together, and reimagine our shared future.

Ecology and Climate Action

We support a peaceful grassroots movement pushing for climate action, and a Zero Carbon UK. In practice, ELL aims to go further, maintaining a negative carbon footprint, largely through putting in place mindful permaculture based practices. Through forest gardening, we all have the tools to increase biodiversity and to address climate change. Forest gardens provide us with a powerful response to our shared global concerns.

Please refer to our Blog and Volunteer pages for more information.

As an organisation, we are becoming increasingly vocal in our declaration of a Climate and Ecological Emergency, and urge others to join in Climate Action. If you are an individual or organisation who wishes to do more in these areas, please do get in touch.
